In this lesson

Your baby is developing physically fast and beginning to explore. It’s a time of big physical movement and early language sounds.

6 to 12 Months — Crawling into Curiosity Your baby is suddenly on the move. This age is marked by exploration, risk, and joy. Crawling, scooting, standing—and soon, those first precious wobbly steps—open a new chapter of both excitement and exhaustion.

You might hear, “Baby-proof everything!” and while that’s helpful, data shows most baby injuries still come from furniture tipping over. Start with what matters most: anchor dressers, mount TVs, clear the floors. Creating a safe space doesn’t require money. One dad we spoke to cut up an old yoga mat to make a soft landing zone for playtime.

This age is also when babies begin experimenting with language. They may not say full words, but they’re learning the rhythm of conversation. So talk to your baby while folding laundry. Narrate your daily activities. They’re soaking it all in.

You are their favorite toy. Don’t underestimate the value of simply being present on the floor with them, letting them crawl over you like a jungle gym. Your attention is more enriching than any gadget.
